Young Woman Arrested in Stabbing Death of Elba Estrada in Coachella
A tragic incident unfolded in Coachella on Sunday evening when Elba Estrada, a 53-year-old woman, was fatally stabbed. The suspect, Marilyn Cardenas, a 22-year-old resident of San Bernardino, has been arrested in connection with the crime. The arrest was made without incident, and Cardenas has since been booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center.
The authorities were alerted to the assault with a deadly weapon in the 83-000 block of Avenue 48 at approximately 5:50 p.m. Deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station swiftly responded to the scene. They discovered Estrada lying on the ground, having suffered a stab wound. Despite their efforts to administer first aid, Estrada tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Following the incident, Cardenas fled the area. However, thanks to the diligent efforts of the deputies, she was located and apprehended shortly after. Sheriff’s Sgt. Deirdre Vickers confirmed that there are no other suspects being sought in connection with the investigation.
