FRIANT, Calif. – A tragic head-on collision near Millerton Lake has claimed the life of a Fresno man, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. The victim has been identified as Ryan Trevino, a 35-year-old resident of Fresno.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. Trevino was driving a blue Chevy Silverado westbound on Millerton Road, near Marina Drive. At the same time, 78-year-old John Tarter, also from Fresno, was driving his white Toyota Tundra eastbound on the same road.
Eyewitnesses at the scene informed officers that Trevino’s Chevy was driving recklessly before the collision, crossing over the solid double yellow lines and crashing head-on into Tarter’s Toyota. Tragically, Tarter succumbed to his injuries, while his passenger sustained major injuries.
Trevino, on the other hand, is currently receiving treatment for his major injuries at a local hospital. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and suspect Trevino of driving under the influence. Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the crash. This is not the first time Trevino has been involved in a suspected DUI incident. Just a few months ago, in October 2023, he was arrested in connection with another DUI incident.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that this is an ongoing investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
