Four People Identified in Hot Air Balloon Crash in Eloy, Arizona

Authorities in Eloy, Arizona have released the names of the four individuals who tragically lost their lives in a hot air balloon crash. The incident occurred on January 14, near Sunshine Boulevard and Hanna Road at approximately 7:50 a.m.

According to police reports, the hot air balloon was carrying a total of nine people, including eight skydivers and a pilot. The skydivers safely exited the balloon before the crash, completing their jumps without incident. However, a catastrophic event unfolded, causing the balloon to plummet to the ground.

The victims have been identified as Kaitlynn Bartom, 28, from Andrews, Indiana; Atahan Kiliccote, 24, from Cupertino, California; Cornelius Van Der Walt, 37, originally from South Africa but residing in Eloy; and Chayton Wiescholek, 28, from Union City, Michigan. Van Der Walt was the pilot of the hot air balloon.

Tragically, another individual, Valerie Stutterheim, 23, from Scottsdale, Arizona, is currently listed in critical condition.

The Eloy Police Department is working in conjunction with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to investigate the incident. Their collaborative efforts aim to determine the cause of this devastating crash.
