Kill Devil Hills Man Surrenders to Police After Eight Months on the Run
A man from Kill Devil Hills, who had been reported missing for eight months, has finally turned himself in to the Winston-Salem Police. Jackie Ray Price, 48, who had left a suicide note, is now facing multiple charges.
The Kill Devil Hills Police Department had issued a news release on January 11, seeking the public’s assistance in locating Price. He had been reported missing on May 8th, 2023, and a suicide note was found at his residence. However, no body was discovered, leading investigators to believe that Price was alive and evading arrest for several criminal charges.
At the time of his disappearance, Price was under investigation for felony indecent exposure, as well as seven counts of felony secret peeping and seven counts of misdemeanor secret peeping. The investigations were initiated after incidents at a McDonald’s restaurant and the Cavalier Motel in Kill Devil Hills. Price had fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement, but his cell phone was seized, and videos of women inside their hotel rooms were recovered.
The suicide note was believed to be a smokescreen, as investigators suspected that Price had left the area but was still in contact with individuals in the Outer Banks area. Warrants were obtained for the 15 charges against him.
Thanks to the assistance of the public, Price’s location was narrowed down to the Winston-Salem area. The Winston-Salem Police Department played a crucial role in alerting their community and conducting multiple knock-and-talks, following up on leads, and conducting overnight surveillance. Their relentless efforts ultimately led Price to surrender himself on Sunday, January 14.
Price has been placed under a total bond of $405,000 for the various charges against him. Kill Devil Hills detectives traveled to Winston-Salem on Monday morning to interview Price, and his first court date is scheduled for February 19, 2024, in Dare County.
This turn of events marks a significant development in the case, bringing closure to the search for Jackie Ray Price. The efforts of both the public and law enforcement have played a crucial role in ensuring that justice is served..
