Memphis Police Confirm Death of Yo Gotti’s Brother in Fatal Shooting

Memphis rapper Yo Gotti’s brother, Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, was tragically killed in a shooting on Saturday, according to the Memphis Police Department. The incident occurred on Winchester Road, and the police have launched an investigation into the matter.

The shooting took place around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, when an officer in the area heard multiple gunshots. Upon arriving at the scene, the officer discovered two victims with multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, but Mims, aged 47, was pronounced dead. The second male victim remains in stable condition.

During a press conference, Deputy Chief Paul Wright stated that the police were reviewing video footage but had not yet identified a suspect. It is also unclear whether there were multiple shooters involved in the incident. Wright added, “We do feel like the individual that was shot was possibly targeted by the suspect.”

According to a witness at the scene, the shooting was carried out by individuals in a white Ford Explorer with black wheels and dark tinted windows. Surveillance footage captured images of the vehicle. The police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.

Following the news of Mims’ death, several artists from Yo Gotti’s CMG label, with which Mims was affiliated, expressed their grief on social media. CMG rapper GloRilla posted a photo on Instagram of herself with Yo Gotti and Big Jook at the 2023 Grammy awards, accompanied by a caption expressing sadness. Another CMG rapper, Big Boogie, shared a photo of himself with his head bowed, along with a heartfelt message dedicated to “Big Jook.” Louisville rapper Est Gee also paid tribute to Mims, emphasizing their friendship and stating, “Kept it real wit me I could never forget.”

As the investigation into the shooting continues, the Instagram account belonging to Big Jook still features his most recent post from Friday. In hindsight, the caption takes on a haunting tone: “They don’t want to face you they wanna snake you. Stay alert 2 stay alive watch your back at all times.”
