Woman Arrested for Obstructing Murder Investigation in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City authorities have arrested a woman in connection with obstructing a murder investigation. The arrest comes after the discovery of the body of Gabriel Vigil, an 18-year-old man, in Downtown Salt Lake City early Sunday morning. Tommi Gallegos, 23, has been booked into Salt Lake County Jail for allegedly hindering the investigation into Vigil’s death.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:35 a.m. on January 14th, when Salt Lake City Police officers responded to the scene and found Vigil on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. Sadly, Vigil died at the scene. Police also discovered damage from gunfire to a nearby house, fence, and several parked cars.

While the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, detectives have determined that several individuals believed to be connected to the incident were attending a birthday party at the location. It has been revealed that the house where the party took place was rented through an online property rental company.

Witnesses have reported that an argument escalated into a physical altercation, which ultimately led to the shooting. Following the incident, individuals at the party, including witnesses, fled the scene before the arrival of the police.

Investigators believe that Gallegos provided false statements in an attempt to obstruct, delay, or prevent prosecution in the case. Gallegos is currently being held in Salt Lake County Jail on one count of obstruction of justice.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward. They can call 801-799-3000 or submit an anonymous tip using the City Protect App, referencing case number 24-9955.
