Head-On Collision Claims Life of Elderly Fresno Man: John Tarter Identified as Victim

In a devastating incident on Saturday afternoon, a head-on collision on Millerton Road resulted in the tragic death of 78-year-old John Tarter, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when Tarter was driving his 2018 white Toyota Tundra pick-up truck east near Marina Driver. Eyewitnesses, who were interviewed by the California Highway Patrol, reported that 35-year-old Ryan Trevino was driving recklessly in a 2016 blue Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck, crossing a solid double yellow line and crashing into Tarter’s vehicle.

Trevino, who was driving westbound, not only caused the collision but also endangered other drivers on the road. Witnesses described his driving as highly dangerous and erratic. This incident raises concerns about the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such tragedies.

Unfortunately, Tarter succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident, before he could be taken to a hospital. Trevino and a passenger in Tarter’s truck suffered major injuries, as confirmed by a CHP report. This accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the devastating consequences that can result from reckless behavior behind the wheel.

Disturbingly, it has been revealed that this is not the first time Trevino has faced charges related to driving under the influence. In fact, he was previously arrested in October 2023 for DUI charges, according to Fresno County Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti. This raises questions about the effectiveness of the legal system in deterring repeat offenders and protecting innocent lives.

The loss of John Tarter is a tragic event that has left the Fresno community deeply saddened. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws. It is crucial that justice is served and that measures are taken to prevent similar accidents in the future. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Tarter family during this difficult time.
