Local School Board Trustee and Two Children Killed in Tragic Plane Crash in Parker County

In a devastating turn of events, a local school board trustee and his two children lost their lives in a plane crash on Sunday in Parker County. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

The Parker County Sheriff’s Office, along with local fire departments, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and LifeCare Ambulance, responded to reports of a plane crash near Poolville on January 14th, just after 1 p.m. The plane involved was identified as a twin-engine Cessna C310, which reportedly departed from an airport in Wise County, according to the sheriff’s office.

However, a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) suggests that the plane actually departed from Carrizo Springs in far South Texas and was en route to the Bridgeport Municipal Airport in Wise County when tragedy struck. The crash occurred approximately 10 miles away from its intended destination, as reported by WFAA.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene only to find all three occupants of the plane deceased. One of the victims was identified as Dr. Heath Smith, the vice president of the Paradise ISD Board of Trustees. The identities of his two children, who also perished in the crash, have not been released yet, according to CBS News Texas.

Dr. Smith was a highly respected bariatric surgeon with offices in Decatur and Fort Worth. The Paradise ISD superintendent, Will Brewer, expressed his grief over the loss, stating, “Our hearts are devastated for the Smith family. Words cannot fully express the grief that we feel for their loss. The tragedy that this family has endured is unimaginable.”

Brewer also took to Facebook to offer counseling services to students and faculty in need, acknowledging that the impact of this tragedy could be far-reaching, even for those who did not personally know the victims. He urged parents to have open discussions with their children about their thoughts and feelings, as it is crucial in helping them cope with their grief.

As the investigation continues, the NTSB is working diligently to determine the cause of this heartbreaking incident. The community, meanwhile, remains united in their support for the Smith family during this difficult time..
