Motor Vehicle Collision on Highway 599 in Pickle Lake

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 599 in the early hours of January 15, 2024. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the incident, but the OPP investigation revealed a concerning factor: the suspicion of impairment by drugs as a contributing cause of the collision.

The driver involved in the collision has been identified as Kevin Sakanee, a 39-year-old resident of Thunder Bay. Sakanee is now facing multiple charges, including impaired operation, obstructing a peace officer, and personation. Additionally, he was found to be in possession of an open liquor container and was controlling a vehicle with cannabis readily accessible. It is worth noting that Sakanee does not possess a valid driving license.

As a result of these charges, Sakanee has been taken into custody and is currently awaiting a court appearance scheduled for January 16, 2024, in Sioux Lookout.

In connection with the incident, another individual, a 29-year-old resident of Sioux Lookout, was also apprehended. This person has been charged with possessing an open liquor container in an unauthorized location.
