Investigation Underway in Connection with Weekend Murder Near Kansas Fast-Food Restaurant

In Johnson County, law enforcement authorities are currently conducting an investigation into a suspect believed to be connected to a murder that occurred near a fast-food restaurant over the weekend.

The incident took place on Saturday, just before 7 p.m., when the police received a report of an armed disturbance at the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant located at 13330 W. 87th Street Parkway in Lenexa.

A 911 caller reported that a person had been shot at the location. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a man inside a vehicle who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was later identified as 21-year-old Markese D. Gleghorn from Lenexa. Despite the officers’ attempts to save his life, Gleghorn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after the initial call, the police received another call from 24-year-old Dmariea Valentino Avance, who claimed to be involved in the disturbance. Officers promptly responded to an apartment in the 12700 block of W. 88th Circle and arrested Avance without incident.

As per online jail records, Avance is currently being held in Johnson County on a requested charge of first-degree murder, with a bond set at $500,000. His first court appearance on the charge was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
